VLIZ investigates plastic pollution

Nieuwpoort Investigates Plastic Pollution with GPS Trackers

until 15 September

From 15 August to 15 September 2025, 15 floating GPS trackers will be placed in Nieuwpoort at the mouth of the Yser, from the Ganzepoot to the storm surge barrier. This is part of the European TREASURE project, which studies the spread of plastic pollution in ports and estuaries.

The trackers regularly send signals so they can be easily located. They are always retrieved at the end of the study, so they do not cause any additional pollution. If you see a tracker, please leave it in the water.

A big thank you from the VLIZ team.
